GO TO FACEBOOK KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1970. ![]() CLASS OF '69'S REUNION IN KONA (10/17-10/19/2008): Some of our classmates attended this reunion so here's an email from our classmate Jocelyn Lindsey... The Reunion was memorable. Bruce and I, Leabert and Karen, Lindsay Lindsey and his wife Kari Ann were there only in the evening. The Class of '69 was serenaded by the Lindsey family. I hope everyone enjoyed it. We left in the wee hours of the morning. The food was outstanding. Clarence Logan was the head chef, is what I was told, and delegated very well. There was a hand full of Alumni, but ones that we hadn't seen for awhile. We heard that Sam Choy came by sometime during the day to visit. There was homemade Poi, Laulau's, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, crab legs, fried fish, banana cream pie. So Ono! Mahalo to the Class of '69 for inviting us. Brother Lindsay hadn't seen any Kahuku people since he graduated in '68. Now he is inspired to go to other (his own class) reunions. One really inspiring thing that Mike Ikeda suggested was to honor those classmates that had passed on. Those who wanted to share some personal insight on the deceased were invited to do so. A calabash was placed on the table, so that all the laughter, and good times would fill it. When the classmates shared their thoughts, a kukui nut was placed inside. The calabash will be at their next reunion, hoping no kukui nuts will be added. A good time was had by all. Aloha, Jocelyn Go to www.kahuku.org for update of Kahuku High School Happenings. THE 2007 SIXTIES CLASS REUNION IN VEGAS WAS FABULOUS!!! The IN place to meet classmates was the Main Station Buffet or the upstairs lobby of the California Hotel. It didn't matter what time you ate at the Buffet you were bound to see Kahuku Alumni. Each evening (Thursday 10/18, Friday 10/19, Saturday (10/20 & Sunday 10/21) there was music being led by by Kela, Nani & Geri (The Kuhia Sisters) and others. Everyone sang along if they knew the song or just enjoyed listening while talking story with fellow classmates. It was a reunion of classmates...it didn't matter where you were from Kaaawa, Kahana, Punalu'u, Hau'ula, Laie, Kahuku, Sunset Beach, if you went to Kahuku High School, you were 'Ohana. Most classes held their own individual class get-togethers on Thursday and Friday but mostly everyone came together on Saturday for the "KAHUKU RED RAIDER SIXTIES CLASS REUNION" dinner/dance at a ranch outside of Vegas. Eventhough the party was marred by an unexpected wind storm, everyone tried to make the best of it. The polynesian and vegas style entertainment was excellent but the wind wouldn't stop so everyone slowly started leaving the party and returned to the California Hotel to continue the party. The music continued to play and the singing of the Kahuku Alma Mater rang through the casino a few times during the night. At midnight everyone came together to sing the last song before the Sabbath. Afterwards everyone continued talking story, played the slot machines, or turned in for the night. It was a reunion that will be remembered for a long time. WE ARE KAHUKU RED RAIDERS FOR LIFE!!!!! *OUR 50TH BIRTHDAY PARTY IN LAS VEGAS 2003* (See PHOTO2 & PHOTO4 PAGES for Reunion pictures) There was a gathering of Kahuku Red Raiders recently in Las Vegas. There were 29 "1970" classmates and their 16 guests who attended our 50th Birthday Celebration held at the Fremont Hotel. Mahalo to all the classmates who came early to help decorate our tables and to help put up our wall display of pictures of the "good old" days. To start the evening Andrew Bright was asked to give a blessing on the food and on the celebration. We then heard from our Reunion Chairman Steve Baldridge who welcomed our classmates with his great wit. After Steve's welcoming remarks it was time to eat. Our buffet was filled with local foods such as kalua pig and cabbage, teriyaki chicken, mahi mahi with macadamia nuts, lomi lomi salmon, sweet potato, steamed rice and coconut cake. During the dinner we played "oldies but goodies" music while a video of our 30th Class Reunion was played. It was great seeing all the other classmates on the video who couldn't make it to Las Vegas. After dinner we had an icebreaker activity then it was time for the door prize giveaways...A Big Mahalo to all our classmates who donated so many door prizes...we had lots of t-shirts (thanks Kim!), candy, cookies, housewares items, Utah Winter Olympics souvenirs, portable tools, money (someone wrapped up a roll of quarters which came handy in Las Vegas) and the unforgetable "Viagra" clocks, ties and cup dispensers (thanks Donna!). These "Viagra" door prizes kept everyone laughing. As classmates came up to claim their prizes they each gave a little update of what they've been up to these 32 years since graduation. There were a lot of guys who went into the military for a number of years then retired then went back into the work force. We then took a group picture then some of us sang Karaoke songs. After the last Karaoke song we all stood in a circle and held hands to sing our "Alma Mater" led by our songleader Priscilla. The following day some of us gathered at Kahuku alumnus Au and Janice Fonoimoana's home for a pool party. There was lots of food to eat and we all had fun learning some Maori and hula steps from classmate Claudine and her husband Richard. Although our numbers were few, we had fun.
